How to Apply to Study in China
Applying to universities in China for international students, although similar to applications in other countries, has specific conditions and required documents that you should be aware of. Required Application Documents
- A copy of your passport, including the page with your photo and personal information. If it is close to expiring, you should renew it in advance.
- Educational certificates (Diploma / Degree Certificates). If the applicant has not graduated yet, a “pre-graduation” certificate confirming the expected graduation date is required.
- Academic transcripts should be complete copies from the previous school/university. If not in Chinese or English, they must be translated and certified.
- Recommendation letters, usually 2 letters from professors or academic supervisors.
- Statement of Purpose (SOP) or Personal Statement, a letter explaining why you chose to study this program (Hands On offers free SOP review services).
- Language proficiency evidence HSK for Chinese language programs / TOEFL, IELTS, or others for English language programs.
- Health certificate (Physical Examination Record). Some universities require a health certificate and test results according to Chinese government regulations.
- Criminal record certificate. Some places require this certificate depending on the country of origin, and it must be within the validity period set by the university or embassy.
- Financial proof showing you have sufficient funds for tuition fees, accommodation, and living expenses throughout the entire course.
