University of Brighton:

University of Brighton

A part of Brighton since 1859, the university has been guided by its original ethos to become the diverse, multidisciplinary institution that it is today. With 20,700 students studying across five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings, the university community demonstrates civic responsibility across the south coast and beyond.

We are defined by a commitment to social relevance, steering our curriculum and research projects away from the ivory tower and toward the fulfilment of public good as a trusted partner.

This not only involves active engagement with a local and global community but includes a coordinated effort toward creating an equal and sustainable environment within the university. This is based on the shared values of engagement, diversity, participation, collaboration and sustainability.

The University of Brighton is a community of over 21,000 students and 2,600 staff based on five campuses in Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings. We have one of the best teaching quality ratings in the UK and a strong research record, factors which contribute to our reputation as a leading post-1992 university. There are 14% of international students. We are the leading university for the professions, particularly medicine, nursing, engineering and pharmacy.

Ranking and Awards

In 2015, the University of Brighton gained a first class award in the People & Planet’s University League table – UK universities ranked by environmental and ethical performance.

We are signed up to the Athena Swan charter and won an institutional Bronze award in 2012. The award recognises success by the university in developing employment practices to support and further the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine departments in higher education.
